About DAR Foundation

Who We Are

Who We Are

DAR Foundation is a U.S.-based nonprofit animal rescue organization focused on saving abused, abandoned, and neglected dogs in Mexico and helping them find safe, permanent homes—locally and through adoptions to the United States and Canada.

Founded in response to the ongoing animal welfare crisis in Tequisquiapan, Mexico, DAR Foundation works alongside local rescuers who face daily cases of severe neglect, abuse, starvation, and untreated medical conditions. Many dogs are born on the streets, while others are abandoned when they become sick, injured, or no longer wanted.

Due to economic hardship and long-standing cultural challenges related to animal welfare in Mexico, local adoption opportunities are extremely limited. For many dogs, international adoption is not an option—it is the only path to survival. DAR Foundation exists to make these cross-border adoptions possible, ensuring that dogs who would otherwise be forgotten have a real chance at life.

Why Your Support Matters

Almost every dog rescued by DAR Foundation has experienced abuse, neglect, or prolonged suffering. Many arrive with serious injuries, chronic illness, malnutrition, or deep emotional trauma caused by human cruelty and abandonment.

Rescue is only the beginning. These dogs require extensive veterinary treatment, surgeries, medication, proper nutrition, and long-term emotional rehabilitation. Trust must be rebuilt patiently so each dog can heal, feel safe, and eventually thrive in a home environment.

Your support provides the resources needed for physical recovery, emotional healing, safe shelter, and responsible international adoption preparation. Until a dog is healthy and emotionally ready, they rely entirely on donor-funded care.

For many of these animals, support from across the border is the only chance for a future defined by safety, dignity, and love.

Our Team

As a U.S.-based registered non-profit, DAR Foundation bridges the gap between generous U.S. and Canadian donors and Fundación DAR's shelter in Mexico.

We manage the full adoption process, helping dogs find permanent, loving homes across the USA and Canada. Our board of dedicated volunteers works to raise awareness, educate the public, and share the many success stories of rescued dogs now living in loving homes. Together we can do more!
