Merlot chose us. He was a community dog, living freely in the streets nearby, when he wandered up to the shelter on his own one day. We fed him, brought him in, vaccinated him, and had him neutered. Then we released him back to the neighborhood where he had always lived.

He came back. Not once — every night. He would return to the shelter and wait at the entrance, asking to be let in to sleep. Every morning he was there. Every evening he was back. He wasn't lost. He wasn't confused. He had simply decided that this was where he wanted to be. Eventually, we stopped letting him go.

Merlot is a beautiful dog — black with striking patches of white and warm light brown that make him look like no other dog in the shelter. He is medium energy, playful, and easy with both people and other dogs. He is, in every sense, a dog who already knows how to be part of something. He proved that by choosing us.

He is neutered, fully vaccinated, and ready to travel to the USA or Canada for adoption.
